Yet Another Silly Little Annoyance - Quick Launch Bar

Hi All,

This one has me bothered more so than other annoyances. I have 6 items in my
Quick Launch bar that I want to display in a certain left to right order. I
set the order by dragging the icons to where I want them, but Windows XP Pro
refuses to save the order. Whenever I reboot, the order returns to some
other order, it's not alphabetical or any other logical sort that I can
figure out.

How do I get XP to save and remember the Quick Launch bar as I want it?

Thanks for your help.

Just a guess..
Right click on the taskbar and if checked, uncheck "lock the task bar". Now
arrange the quick launch items and now "lock the task bar.

Good luck,

Good guess, but I tried that and it didn't work. On the reboot, the order
reverts back to what XP wants it to be.

I have 2 more thoughts.
1. When you unlock the task bar, drag and expand the quick launch bar a bit
and try your rearrangement, then lock again.

2. The othersuggestion would be to drag the icons back to the desk top tghen
drag them back one at a time in the order you want.

You will then have to delete the shortcuts created on the desktop of course.

Good luck,

Here are a couple things to try. First, right-click the Quick Launch bar on an area not occupied by an icon and select Open Folder from the menu. Right-click a clear area in the Quick Launch folder and uncheck the Auto Arrange option under the Arrange Icons By sub-menu. Second, select Folder Options from the Tools menu of the Quick Launch folder window. Select the View tab and scroll to the bottom of the Advanced settings list. Make sure to check the "Remember each folder's view settings" option.

I believe the second suggestion is going to get you where you want to be. I also believe it allows any manual arrangement to override the Auto Arrange setting.

This behavior could be caused for several reasons....here are a few
suggestions to try:

Quick Launch: Won't remain checked/present nor retains the sort order

Either check your settings here:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

In the right pane under Userinit, Change the key to read:
C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,

Or download and run the reg file on line 263 (right hand side)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Tip:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double click the vbs
file. You will be prompted when the script is done.
