Yellow shield (update available)

This popped up today (XP Pro, SP2). When I tried to execute the update it
failed, because the version of Flash Player it's supposed to update is
earlier than the one I have installed, so the update is unnecessary. How do
I remove the spurious yellow shield, please?

Go to Windows Update and hide that particular update. You shouldn't be offered it again.

At some stage you probably had an older version on your system and updated later
