Yahoo Mail

How do I make yahoo the default mail client?

Yahoo Mail is a service, not a client. In your *unidentified* e-mail
client, there should be a method of selecting which account if the
default account (for sending e-mails) if there is more than 1 account
defined in that *unidentified* e-mail client.

If you're asking how to get the Yahoo Mail web page to display when you
click on a mailto: link or when you elect a menu that sends a message
using the default e-mail client, the old Yahoo Mail activeX control is
no longer available (which would then become a choice under Internet
Options -> Programs -> Email client). Yahoo dropped support for that
separate ymmapi.dll file long ago (2004) and finding an old copy of it
might not have it work since Yahoo has changed their webmail layout and
navigation long since then.

I believe you're stuck having to install their Yahoo Toolbar or Yahoo
Messenger which includes the AX control used as a client (to open their
webmail page) whereupon you could then select it as the default e-mail
client.

You seem to have a thing for penises in your posts. Especially small
ones. Easier for you to handle?

I installed the Yahoo toolbar but it still doesn't give me the option of
selecting it as the default e-mail client.

During installation of the Yahoo Toolbar, you are shown a screen of
selections of what to include in the installation. Did you look at
what you were installing?

One of the installer's selections is "Install the Yahoo Mail plug-in".
It is disabled by default. Did you check it so it got included in the
install?

I got it but I had to make Internet Explorer my default browser first.

The plug-in is an ActiveX control (Microsoft technology not supported
elsewhere). That means it is used by IE to run the script within that
control. Firefox touted that they don't support AX because it was
considered a security issue. They didn't like Microsoft's programming
model and instead wanted to promote their own NPAPI scripting model);
see http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/ActiveX. You can get an
extension to add support Active support to Firefox; see
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/ActiveX. Chrome doesn't natively
support AX, either, but again there are extensions to support it; see
http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/webmasters-faq.html#activex. I
don't use Chrome but believe you can install, for example, the IE Tab
extension which runs IE inside a tab in Chrome.

AX is a Microsoftism while other web browsers look to support platforms
beyond just Windows.
