Yahoo mail getting slammed lately w/Microsoft 'security' virii attachments

D

Doc

Probably for a year or more, I've been regularly getting these
"Security patch" attachment e-mails, along with various "unable to
deliver" and other nuisance emails in my Yahoo mail accounts. Since I
use these addresses only sporadically, it didn't create a big
headache. I'd just mass delete the ones that get past the spam blocker
and empty the bulk and trash once a month or so when my box was
getting full.

However, about the last week or 2 my yahoo mail accounts have been
getting inundated, filling up the 4 megs in about an hour. I even went
through about 50 of them in one of my accounts and blocked the domain
names, but to no avail.

Why is there such a flood all of a sudden? Can anything be done about
this?

Thanks!

If you would bother to READ before you post you would already have you
answer. However, the answer is W32/Swen.

I can sum it up in one word: Windoze.

I have a Yahoo mail account and a SBCGlobal mail account, both with my name
and correct mail address. I have received over 100 virus attempts with
SBCGlobal and none through Yahoo.
With all the resources and talent that Microsoft has is there a reason they
cannot track the senders address to the perpetrators?

You're missing the point - the sender could be you....
....or me...
Anyone who has been unwise enough to run one of the attachments... and
judging by the 1000s of virus riddled swen's i'm getting, there are a fair
number of people who have done just that.

Is it possible for me to send myself a message with another persons address
in the header?

It starts with the two big kahunas, Gates and Ballmer. They should be
clamping down big time and demand a better OS and improvements in the
current ones.

That should be "dreamt," not "drempt."

Yes, it's called spoofing.

It is, provided your ISP doesn't replace it with the correct one (as
mine does, as long as you don't rent a special mailing service).

If they would only make their software harder to configure, it
would force the userbase into three digit intelligence quotients.

It is not their fault that idiots want to play too...

Where would all the AOL users and employees go? What about WebTV users?
I guess the Government could set up a new network called "Idiots R Us" as a
communication vehicle for the "technology challenged?" Moore must be
turning in his grave to see that this technology is availed to them. ;)

That idea may not be as far-fetched as you think it is.

Add Windoze users to that list as well.
