Yahoo images won't show....

I think I figured out why my yahoo images (mail, search, etc icons) won't
show. The browsers (Firefox, IE6) won't connect to
http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com. I've tried allowing them to show the
pop-ups in the Tools>options>content> allowed sites, but still I can't see
the images.
Any ideas why this doesn't work on the desktop pc, but works fine with the
laptop, even though both pc's use winxp sp2?
Thanks

Hi,
Is it possible that a HOSTS file is blocking this URL? A HOSTS file would
block a URL from all browsers.

To check the HOSTS file in Windows XP...
Make sure that Windows is showing hidden files and is
not hiding file extensions for known file types then check for a HOSTS file
at [C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc] Open the HOSTS file with notepad. If
there are entries you wish to disable, you can put the pound sign (#) in
front an entry to disable it. Then File> Save. Or you can rename the HOSTS
file to HOSTS.OLD to disable it.
More on the HOSTS file at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm and
http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/

Hope this helps,

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! This has been bugging me for awhile, and I've asked all
over trying to figure this out.
Would you happen to know how this happened in the first place?
Thanks again.

Hi,
Sorry... I lost track of this topic. If you did not deliberately download
and install a HOSTS file ( such as http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm )
then you're running a program that blocks ads via a HOSTS file. Spybot S&D
has a HOSTS file (not installed by default- I think) as do some other
ad-blocking, security, privacy programs. Remember you can stop the blocking
of (for example) yimg URLs by putting a # in front of the entry in the HOSTS
file, then click on File> Save.
