XP's media player with imbedded video

Im running XP pro, and I've noticed that when a video plays in iexplorer
using windows media player (the latest) that all I get is the profile of
where the video will play, the controls for the video, but no video ever
plays while its embedded into iexplorer.

Ive tried this on various sites, how can I fix this, can I stop it from
playing within iexplorer and have it open WMP as a seperate window?
