xp's choice of drive letters

XP home loaded fine on my system but it assigned drive
letter 'F:' to my hard drive and assigned 'C:' to a USB-
connected zip drive. I changed the drive letter of the
zip drive, but XP says I cannot change the drive letter
of the boot drive. Do I have to reinstall the software?
If yes, How do I tell XP that I want my hard drive to be
drive "C"? If no, how do I reassign my hard drive to "C"?

Thanks

You cannot change the OS's drive letter without re-installing XP. Next time
you install, disconnect all peripherals except the mouse, keyboard, and
monitor.

Ok, if the machine can boot without the USB zip,
try another thing before you reformat your disk :) - just for fun..
Do Subst C: F:\
Then letter C: will point to same disk as F: so you can use C: everywhere you like,
and move the zip to other letter.
But don't be tempted to run global replace F: to C: in registry and misc. config files,
better leave everything as is.

Reinstall - yes. (Unfortunately.)
Reason it happened - you had the USB drive plugged in during the install.
Solution - don't have it plugged in until you are done.
