I do not know if this is the correct newsgroup to ask this question but it
does involve XPpros firewall.

I use mIRC it is a IRC (internet relay chat) client.

There is a feature that lets you send and relieve files form other users,
called DCC.

XPpros firewall will let me relieve files but not send files.

Is there a work around for this?

I do not like to drop my firewall to send a file, thanks.

There is but it means opening ports for the file to be sent. The new
firewall that will be available when service pack 2 is released is far
better than the current one and is more configurable. I'm afraid i can't
help with the ports because, other than testing the current firewall on SP2
i have never really been keen on the XP firewall. Why not download the free
version of zone alarm from www.zonelabs.com. That gives you far more control
and you don't need to do any editing of ports etc. Just diable the xp
firewall befoire installing zone alarm otherwise they may conflict with each
other.

It may be like the sending of files in messenger; where an acceptance of
sending a file is expressed as a request, through a port, to provide the
file with the sending machine acting 'as a server'

The ports used in Messenger are numbers 6891 and up - I have the first
three enabled. I doubt if mIRC uses the same ones (you could try) and
you will probably need to ask the experts on it at their site which ones
should be opened
