XPHome - Search window is empty

When I use Start -> Search
I get a window with the dog animation, but otherwise blank and no way to do
a search.

This machine has Earthlink software and browser on it, possibly blocking it
?

I already tried reinstalling the file "srcasst.inf" with no change.

Any ideas?

that article refers to reinstallation of srchasst.inf,
which I have already tried.
My winxp is already at SP2, and the download won't deal with SP1 or later.

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll

Yes, it gave the message about the OS already being to SP2.

Did you try the Hotfix?
