xpe shutdown

Upon shutting down my computer it hangs at the windows
shutting down screen, without powering down the computer
or turning the contrast dark. What direction should I
take to resolve this problem?

Eric,

Is your hardware ACPI enabled? And what HAL component did you base your
image on?
Does you BIOS support APM? if so, did you include NTAPM service?

I am using acpi.
I am not sure which hal component my system is based. I
ran tap and then add additional components to create my
system.
I do not know if my bios supports apm, but I added the
ntapm componenet and will see if that makes a difference.

When executing a shutdown and the screen goes to windows
is shutting down, what happens next in a typical system?

Thanks for your help on this matter.

I am using acpi.

Your mean your hardware is ACPI compliant?
I am not sure which hal component my system is based.

Find " ... PC" component in your Configuration.
If it is "Standard PC", it is not ACPI HAL.

Don't forget to check out Power applet options at run time to enable APM if it is there.
However, if you switch to ACPI you won't need that..

Oh, are your saying you stuck on "Windows Shutting Down..." screeen?
I thought you saw "You can trun off the power now" screen.
Search the NG archive, some issues have been discussed here with regards to the Shutdown screen.

Anyway, if it is ACPI based system and everything is setup properly, it will shutdown the compouter (power off).
You haven't mention what Logon and Shell you Configuration is based on. It may affect the shutdown as some issues have been known
with Minlogon. Make sure you've got latest QFEs installed to fix the issues before they even appear.
As an experiment, use "fba -shutdown" command.
