XP2 cannot work with NA Security

T

Tom

I just downloaded and installed XP Service Pack 2. I have Norton-AntiVirus
Security on as well and cannot access the net unless Norton is disabled and
turned off. Anybody have any ideas??
Also, I get this error "Microsoft C++ error Programs/Symantec/ Shared.
etc... I looked at the Symantec website and apparently XP2 is supposed to
be compatible with Norton.

I've tried everything, from tuning off the the firewall in ie6 but no avail.
Please any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Thanks for your advice. Robert. I tried all the links here and nothing
worked. Thanks anyways, I ran all the spyware removal SPYBOT, CWSHREDDER,
ADWARE, and they all detected nothing. I think this is a bug in XP2
Because:

1. I tried to turn off the firewall with the Security centre. but it didn't
work. It still showed the windows firewall on even with Windows firewall
icon was clicked off. I then rebooted my computer and still the same thing.
I cannot get the darn ! windows firewall turned off!! grrr

2. I got this error message saying " Microsoft error C++ etc. whenever I
got Norton on. I am fairly convinced this is a bug in the program. Rob.

What do you think?

Did you seek updates for Ad-aware and Spybot before running them, even for
the first time? Are you running Ad-aware SE?

Try running a full system scan with NAV after first manually updating
definitions, enabling 'Show Hidden Files' and rebooting into Safe Mode.

NAV/NIS is not SP2-compatible without the appropriate Norton updates
installed. Still, NAV/NIS may /be/ the problem. Uninstall it and reboot
(be careful!). Confirm that everything's now well and then reinstall it and
reinstall the SP2-related updates, too.

If NAV was running during the install of SP2, you may have a corrupt
install. If so, uninstall NAV/NIS and then SP2. Reboot, reinstall SP2 via
Windows Update (V5), confirm all is well, then reinstall and update NAV/NIS.

You may need to upgrade to the latest edition of
NAV, even if your current subscription is still valid.
I'm having the same problem on one of my computers
with an older version of NAV, but not on the one
with the latest version. It comes boxed with
Norton Systemworks with a both a Norton and store rebate
(from Fry's) which brings the price down to $0 (you
do pay state sales tax however). One would think that
LiveUpdate would make all versions of NAV compatible,
but this is apparently not the case.
