Hello.
My laptop came with windows XP loaded on it. How do I
reload it without disk? I shouldn't have to pay for it
again. My restore disks would delete all my info and I
want to avoid that. No one can seem to help. I keep
getting the error message "windows could not start because
the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\system32\config\system.

Borrow a disk, unless your recovery disks can do a non-
destructive recovery, most can't.

Usually, the recovery disks that come with a notebook computer offer
three choices: Complete format and re-installation, selective
install of programs, selective restore of third party OEM software.

If you use a retail disk, you run the risk of removing drivers and
other proprietary software installed by the OEM. You may wind up
having to re-install anyway.

BTW, the error you're experiencing is a registry error. You might try
doing a Google search in the Google groups for an answer.
