Hi,

I'd like to run two versions of XP on my laptop, but cant install it
twice as I am OEM recovery disks (IBM).

Would it work if I copy the XP partition? I did that, but nothing is
recognised. I presume some other changes need to be done so that I can
dualboot?

Or would it not work at all, because of drive letters maybe?

Louis.

You added the second installation to the boot.ini file?

boot.ini? didnt know I had one of those but googled and figured out
what to do. now I can boot XP on the seconds partition, which is a copy
of the first partition...

but: I get some error when logging in, probably to do with the network
settings as I dont have internetconnection when booting off 2nd
partition. what could the problem be?

and: seems like what I want to do wont work... I wanted to strip down
the XP copy to bare minimum and uninstall most programs... but those
all point to the C: drive, which is the first partition.... I suppose
what I could do is hide the first partition and set the seconds active
and make it drive C:, then uninstall and strip everything I want, and
then reactive the first partition... ?

Nope, better not. it would be best to buy a copy of xp.
a copy is going to contain all the pointers the original did, pointing back
to C:
You need to buy a copy of xp and do an install.

You may have to hide the original partition the first time you boot the
copy.

XP was installed on C.
The copy will think that it is installed on C.
XP gives the drives the letters.
Create a folder on the copy C.
Now, boot to the original XP.
Is the folder on the original's C drive?

sounds convincing. the worst that could happen is that it doesnt
work...

what folder do you mean? ("> Is the folder on the original's C drive?"

Create the file on the copy Windows partition, boot to first partition
Windows, is the created folder on the first partition?
