XP:WorK2000 Database

Each Time I open the database I have made a dummy entry before I can call up
the file I want to work on
IE I have to letter the first file, say A, then enter and then done.
Then I can go to FILE and call up the one I want.
is there a simple way around this?
 
Do you not get the option to "Open existing database" in the opening box?
