XP won't turn off

When I Click "Turn Off" to shutdown my computer the system goes through the
shutdown, and then immediately restarts..!! I suspect it must be a setting,
but I don't know how to adjust it so that when I click Turn Off it actually
turns itself off like it used to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...!!

Thanks

Your computer is likely "crashing" upon shutdown.

Go to Start. Right click on My Computer. Go to properties. Go to Advanced -
then Startup and Recovery.

Remove the check from the box for "Automatically Restart".

Close down the windows. Now restart your computer again. If the computer
crashes on shutdown, you will get the "blue screen of death". Write down
what is in the screen, word for word. Post the message back here (in this
same thread please) and someone may be able to assist you.

PCs 99% of the time that have a no-shutdown & an auto restart,is do to
a hardware conflict.If recently added hardware,remove it,then run pc,if none
has been added recently, remove hardware 1 piece at a time till pc
stabilizes.....

Andrew, you are an idiot. Stick to your day job which we can only hope
has nothing to do with computers.

I'm sure Andrew has no day job. The child labor laws prevent it.

Maybe. He posts from (e-mail address removed). At one point the posting IP
resolved to somewhere Eckrich meat products was located so I thought he
might be an employee or an employee's child. However this last post was
done from 71.13.131.165 which is a Charter Communications IP out of St.
Louis, MO. I suppose we'll never know since he just trolls and never
responds to anyone's criticisms.

Normally I would just killfile him, but because he often gives such
dangerous advice I think it's better if we watch out for the OP's and
keep an eye on him.

Yes. As I've said before, I used to think he was just ignorant, but I'm now
sure he's a troll who posts erroneous information on purpose. Nobody else
would just ignore, not just criticisms, but outright proof of his errors, in
the form of Microsoft pages saying the opposite of what he says. He neither
apologizes for the error, nor tries to defend his point of view. He just
continues to post the same errors again and again.

Exactly! He is probably the most dangerous poster here.

I never caught the eckrich part of eckrichco. Eckrich is also a common
family name.

I used to buy Eckrich meat products when I lived in Michigan.

Eckrich, one of the many companies owned by ConAgra.

I used to work for one of those many ConAgra companies.

ConAgra Foods has many favorite food brands

For fiscal 2005 (ending in May), ConAgra Foods reports net sales of nearly
$14.6 billion and operating profit of nearly $1.7 billion.
