How can I get windows xp to shutdown quicker? It takes an estimated
3-5 minutes to turn-off after clicking turn off.

Well Gerry I downloaded UPHClean v1.5e readme.txthttp://snipurl.com/
ko8m and it still takes an unusually long time for the dialog box that
says "Stand By", "Turn Off", "Restart" to appear, then when it does
appear-it's a very long time before the computer turns off.
I have even tried putting an icon on the desktop by-
1. Right clicking an empty place on the desktop
2. clicking "new shortcut"
3. in the location box typing "shutdown" (without quotes) -s -t 0
4. click finish
But it is still slow, so does anyone have any suggestions that would
help?

O yes, another method I have tried that worked very good 2 or 3 times
but quit working was to "press CTRL-ALT-DELETE,which brings up the
task mgr.- then continue to press delete while clicking start-then
turn off.

What is your anti-virus programme?

What is the CPU and how much RAM does your computer have? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get this
information.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

If XP takes that long to shutdown or to restart, you have a unresponsive
process in the background, usually 3rd party software. However,to "fix"
the lag time,go to run,type:regedit In regedit,expand:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
ControlPanel\open DeskTop.Locate & L.click on "AutoEndTasks" go to edit,
modify,set to 1 From 0,close out regedit.

Try the below command from command prompt.

shutdown -s -f -t 00

You can always create a batch file which contains this command and save it
to your desktop and execute it from there
To do this open notepad, type in the above command and save it as whatever
you want just make sure it has a *.bat extension.
Double click file to run.
