LCD Monitor question

The computer is a Dell Optiplex, Windows XP, and a Dell 17" LCD
Monitor is connected. And the problem is when the computer is shut
down the monitor stays on. Could anyone tell how to fix it so the
computer and monitor will both go off when the computer is shutdown.

If you mean the light stays on, perhaps it tells you briefly "no signal"...
That's expected.

It's not a laptop. It has two seperate power supplies. They may be plugged
into the same power strip, plug in the wall, etc... But... Beyond that -
they are two seperate devices.

On some older computers - maybe on some newer ones although I see it less
and less - you could use a 'special' power cord to connect from your
computer's power supply to another device. Some would also control the
power out to said device (via a simple pass-thru, not as if it was actually
using said power supply) so that if the computer was turned off - so was
whatever device was using that pass-thru power.

Doubtful you have this setup.

In other words - your computer power is likely a two-step thing. To turn it
off - you press the power button on the computer and then the power button
on the monitor. If you get a printer, then it may be three way.

Or you could get a power strip with an on/off switch and plug everything
into it - after you properly shutdown the computer, flip the switch on the
strip to power off everything connected to it.
