I just switched from 2000 pro to xp pro. My computer
used to turn off automatically when I shut it down from
the start menu. However, it does not turn off
automatically anymore. I have to press the power button
to do so. Anyone know how to fix this?

A probable cause is that your installation found the BIOS does not
adequately support the 'Advanced Configuration & Power Interface'
(ACPI). It then installs the older APM, but leaves it disabled. Go to
Control Panel - Power Options, and if there is an APM page, check
'Enable APM' on it.
