XP Won't start after I disabled ACPI

P3 1.0Ghz - (only one processor)
AsusCUV4x dual processor capabilities
I installed XP and after the installation (unfortunately
not during) went to the system>hardware>device
manager>drivers>computer>ACPI Multiprocessor and then I
went into the driver setup and changed the driver to MPS
Multiprocessor (instead of Standard PC which i think was
the correct choice) to attempt to disable the ACPI for
better performance from my audio recording setup. Now when
I boot up. in the setup dialogue, the following message
appears. "Windows cannot start ...." Choose to start in
safe mode, safe mode with other options, run windows
normally or configure windows to last time it worked. I
went through every one of these options and none of them
took me back into Windows. It just took me back into the
same exact setup dialogue. How do I get back into Windows
and reconfigure the driver?
Not sure what to do.

Microsoft does not recommend that you change the HAL that is installed during
the Windows XP Setup process. When you change from the ACPI HAL to the
Standard PC HAL, you must reinstall the operating system, and ACPI functionality
is lost.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.
