XP won't shut down

Robin

For the last couple of days XP has been sticking on the "Windows is
shutting down" screen and the computer has to be switched o

I had a couple of freezes where I had to shutdown using the on/off
switch while still in the desktop. I don't know whether there is a
connection.

My level of knowledge: computer user for quite a few years but not an
expert.

Any advice appreciated.

Sorry for the typo. Meant "switched off", of course.

I have seen this often with new motherboards these days

go in your BIOS and use the reset to defualt feature.
then save and exit..

if it work then just go back in your bios a recostomized
what you want.

also do all windows updates.

Robin,
Try using this method to shutdown a couple of times [if it works] to see if
it might fix the problem:
a. Start/Run/type "cmd" [less quote markers], then click "OK".
b. In the subsequent Command Prompt window, type "shutdown -f -s" [again
minus quote markers, plus be sure there is a space preceding each "-" mark],
then press the keyboard "Enter" Key.

Spoke too soon. It's back. As far as I can see it's only in one
desktop. So I may save the settings and delete that desktop.
