XP won't shut down unattended: prompts for floppy

Mr. Land

My Windows XP system displays an "Abort, Retry, Ignore" dialog box
every time I perform a shutdown. The text in the dialog box says
something like "unable to access drive A:".

How would I go about troubleshooting this? My initial thoughts are
that some process thinks it needs to read/write drive A: before it
will terminate.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Caused by third-party software - poor configuration of an anti-virus,
most likely.
