Frequently my floppy drive chatters for several seconds

All programs and windows are closed before I start the
shutdown process.

TIA for any help!!!

A lot of anti-virus programs have their defaults set to check for
floppies and scan prior to shutdown. Check to see if that isn't the
culprit. I see that quite often and don't even think about it any more.

Typically anti-virus software will do a scan of the floppy drive on system
shutdown. Also typically they have an option to turn this feature off.
Check the settings for your AV sofware.
