XP Won't Run QuickRestore

Hmm. Okay, I'm trying to run the Compaq QuickRestore CDs that came
w/my Presario 2710 laptop. This machine has long needed to be
reformatted. But when I plug in the CD and try to run it, I get this
error message:

"An application has attempted to directly access the hard disk, which
cannot be supported. This may cause the application to function
incorreclty. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

So, you see the problem--the computer won't allow the QuickRestore
discs to do their thing. Which leaves me with some troubles--can
anyone help? Have I screwed up the settings to the point of not being
able to reformat?

Much thanks to all.

Boot from the CD. Don't run it in Windows. You cannot format a disk that's
currently in use. Beyond that, it's HP's problem, not Microsoft's.

Ok, I’m having a similar problem. I just upgraded to windows xp (from
a freshly formated hard drive) and I’m running an older DOS based
accounting software program (DacEasy). I have never had any problems
with this (with the exception of an occasional freeze up when
printing) under my old Windows 98. Now, under XP everything seems to
work fine except when I use DecEasy’s backup utility I get the same
error message

cmd.exe - dea

An application has attempted to directly access the hard disk, which
cannot be supported. This may cause the application to function
incorrectly. Chose ’close’ to terminate the application.

It give me a choice to ignore. When I try that, DacEasy says that the
path I imput for the back up is invalid and I have triple checked
myself . . . it’s a windows XP issue!

HELP!
