XP won't recognize Hard Drive

My PC froze & I had to power off the computer. Now it
won't boot. Originally it would boot until I saw the
Windows XP screen flash and then it would try to reboot
again. Now when I try to boot I get the error message "a
disk read error occured". I try to use the recovery cd
and when I get to c prompt and type DIR I get error
message "an error occurred during directory enumeration"
HELP
