xp won't ping

I have a xp sp2 on a network. when i ipconfig it i get an ip address. if i
go to another computer on the lan and ping it, i get nothing. i am also
trying to set up ultravnc and am having problems trying to connect to this xp
computer.
any suggestions??

Maybe you have a firewall blocking connection to it?
