XP won't install: Upgrade Advisor won't run

When I try to run Advisor, the setup stops with "Setup
can't continue. Contact Microsoft Tech. (Error:5E5FF58h)

When I try to install XP I get a "...Contact Tech Support.
Error: 66AFF58h).

It says also that it can't find mfc42.dll or migisol.exe.
Both are present on the installation CD.

Computer is a FIC motherboard with VIA chipset and an AMD
1600+ CPU.

Currently have a new, not upgrade install of Win98 SE.

Help??? Please.
 
Those errors typically come from the fact that the hardware is not Windows
XP compatible. What type of machine is this? What does /checkupgradeonly
show you in the update report?
