XP won't install on K8V Deluxe BSOD

I recently purchased:
Athlon64 3000+
Asus K8V Deluxe
Infineon 512MB DDR400
ATI Radeon 9600xt
LITEON LDW-451S DVD+/-RW

I could not install Windows XP Pro (or Home version) into this
machine. The problems are:
1. I tried putting my ram stick on the DIMM1 slot and it just boot
with a blank screen. So I put the stick on DIMM2 or DIMM3 and it
recognize the RAM just fine (according to the BIOS System
Information). What is up with the DIMM1 slot?
2. Everytime I tried to install XP, it gave me BSOD at different
places of installation. Some are IRQ_LESS_OR_EQUAL and others as
well. Sometimes it tells me that it fails to copy a file and then
when I hit retry, it gives me a BSOD.

Anybody has any input?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Just a few thoughts. It does sound like a memory issue. Although I
don't have a K8V I have seen XP fail to install in the same random
failure fashion on ASUS boards when the memory settings were "By SPD".
After using manual mem settings the install proceeded fine. You might
try more conservative memory settings or a different stick of memory,
perhaps a different brand. Also make sure the power supply is ok.

I had the same probs with this board. I have finally installed win XP
by only using one RAM module in bank 0 and some "slow" bois settings.
But it I think it rather was luck to finish the installation. The
system still works very unstable (turns off sometimes). Perhaps it is
RAM (2*512 TwinMos).

An other question: When you boot your board will the HDs and CD-ROMs
turn off after the ASUS logo screen? This issu is confusing me.
It would be nice if you can answer this question because it is
impossible to connect the ASUS hotline.

From the sound of it I'd be willing to guess your memory is at fault.

I found this board was REALLY picky about the memory it'll run and the timings.
I tried installing XP on it with 2 x 512mb Mushkin PC3500 lvl II and it kept
giving me the same problems your discribing. It was only when I slowed it down
from 400mhz to 333mhz (this stuff is rated 433mhz) that it started behaving
normaly.

I downloaded memtest86+ (if you havent done it, download it now) and ran it for
9 hours overnight. It came up fine when it was running slow, when I punched it
up to 400mhz it came up with some 12,000 errors. This stuff is currently on its
way back to newegg, I picked up a 256meg PNY (infiniton chips) to hold me over
from Compusa and its running flawlessly at 400mhz.

Read Asus's list of recomended memory and see if any of that works out. From
what I hear Corsair's stuff is supposed to run flawlessly.

It turned out that my 2 sticks of memory were bad. Ran memtest on it
and right away 27000 errors... (right away..!!!). RMAed the sticks
and got new ones. Ran one on dimm1 and came out with about 1700
errors... (and I thought to myself .. "oh no .. not again"). Rand the
second one.. squeky clean... put both sticks.. and it's running just
fine. So I said "It works...!! screw it.." So my system's been
running pretty stable now. Thanks for all the input guys/gals.
