XP won't install on a new empty HDD

I have a problem with the initial installation of XP on a
new, empty computer at home. I've flashed the BIOS from
the mfg; using this computer at work, tried using the 6
diskettes from Microsoft, but to no avail. I keep getting
the message "The following value in the .SIF file used by
setup is corrupted, or missing. Value 0 on the line in
section[SourceDiskFiles]with key SP1.cab". This is using
the XP Pro CD.
I've tried getting assistance from Microsoft with no
success as of yet. Their help site leaves a lot to be
desired.
Anyone out there shed so lite on this, of better yet how I
can get assistance from Microsoft?

1. be sure that cmos recognizes the disk geometry
2 boot from floppy one and run fdisk, define one or more partitions.
3 format the bootable partition.
the rest of the install should proceed if the diskettes are a valid install
set.
It is usually easier to install from a Microsoft official CD.

As I said, the error is after the hard drive was
formatted, partitioned, and I was using an original
Microsoft CD I purchased, as the installation disk.

Hi;
Boot and access the bios (as per the on -screen instructions)
Set the boot order sequence to: CD Drive 1st.
Also check that "use AGP/PCI video card 1st" corresponds to what's in the
system.

Accept and reboot with the Win XP disk in drive.

If you still get the same or equiv. message: ?suspect the CD?

I made the BIOS go to the CD driver first in the boot
sequence, but upon rebooting the CD lite blinks but does
not turn. Yet if I go through with the 6 reboot diskettes
to get to XP through the CD it will work. I get to format
the hard drive, partition it, and even start XP from the
CD drive. Up until the same message appears. This is the
original XP Pro CD I purchased. I am unable to access
Microsoft website for a resolution because it is too
convoluting, and they require a 'product key' for
identification. Not the product 'key' but product 'code'
which is only accessable from the screen after a
successful installation. Go figure Microsoft for this
one???
Thanks just the same.

Thanks for all those who tried to help.

What did you do to fix the error, I am experiencing a similar issue. New 80 Gig Maxtor harddrive and a freesh install. Error "Missing Operating system" after the first reboot, after the system files have been copied to the hard drive.
