XP won't find text in Wordperfect folders

When my old computer quit and I went to Windows XP, I lost the ability to
search for text among numerous folders. I need that capability. I am a
long-time WP user, and have WP 12, 7, and wrote things in earlier versions.
My Dell computer came with WP. Wordperfect is working, so it is apparently
an XP problem. WP won't give me any intelligent answer. Someone must have
had the same problem and can help me. I hate to change all these files into
text, because formatting will be messed up. I don't have Word. Someone
suggested I get Open Office, but I doubt that will help. How about the Dell
WP Productivity Pack?

It's possible that you do not have a file association set for the file
extension of those files you cannot search for text in. Associate the
filetype extension with WordPerfect, and the search should be able to find
the text.

This sounds like a logical solution. So far I have been unable to locate how
to accomplish associating the Wordperfect extension. Maybe someone can clue
me.

I opened FOLDERS in CONTROL PANEL. I found that WPD and WPT are associated
with Wordperfect 12. Is it possible that my older Wordperfect folders might
still be in Wordperfect 7 or earlier and therefore not associated? Whenever
I try to open a WPD, it immediately goes to Wordperfect and opens the folder
and file. Yet when I try to search for text in numerous folders, nothing is
found. (The link you provided in the message to me telling me I had a reply
does NOT work. Therefore it takes me 10 minutes to locate the reply.)
