Hi Friends,

Wishing you a very happy and a prosperous new year. Okay, here it goes.....

I bought a 160GB Samsung 7200RPM Hard Disk and have successfully installed
XP on it. But, the thing is that BIOS detects full 160GB but XP doesn't. I
only see 131GB on my XP. Disk Management shows the same. Don't know where
remaining 21GB (as 160GB should read 152GB when installed) has gone. I have
tried Fdisk but that hasn't helped.

My system is P4 2.8GHz with 865HT MotherBoard so there shouldn't be any
system problem with this.

Any ideas on this is much appreciated. Also another thing.. when's Longhorn
going to release.

Thanks & Regards

When it's ready - it hasn't even gone into the beta cycle yet. Expectations
were for sometime in mid-2006, but I've seen nothing recently to corraborate
that. In fact, there's been very little in the past 6 months regarding it
other than dropping the WinFS from it.

To use that size drive to the full you need a BIOS and controller that
handles '48 bit LBA' (it looks as if you do), *and* XP upgraded to at
least SP1 state

You "need" SP1 or SP2.....OR if you have a diskette from Samsung or can
get the driver from Samsung, you could "update" the driver & specify the
diskette as the location.

Or if you were doing an install, you could press the function key to
tell the install it need to prompt for the "other" driver & follow the
prompt when the install gets to that process.
