How to make XP see the full size of a large HDD?

I reformatted and decided to setup my 160gb HDD as one single
partition using Partition Magic. I then installed XP and applied SP2,
I then added the registry entry to enable LBA in XP. XP was showing
the full size of the HDD but I could see that about 22gb showing as
being used was not actually used. I installed a prog that showed me
all the HDD space being used and sure enough it showed 22gb as
unknown. I then used PQ to repartion the HDD into two partions, one of
127gb and the other 21gb, now I have access to the full HDD in two
partitions. But how does one make XP see and use all of a 160gb HDD as
one single partion?

That is your problem, doing that before installing 48 bit LBA support.
I then installed XP and applied SP2,

Its better to slipstream SP2 onto the XP distribution and install from that.
I then added the registry entry to enable LBA in XP.

You dont need to do that registry entry with SP2
XP was showing the full size of the HDD

Where ?

Because you had created that partition using
PM without 48 bit LBA support installed.
I installed a prog that showed me all the HDD space

With 48 bit LBA support enabled.

Start over. Slipstream SP2 onto the XP distribution,
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562
boot that CD, deleted all partitions on the drive and
then install XP on that drive in its own partition.

With PartitionMagic delete the 21 Gb and resize the 127 into that 21 Gb
unallocated space. Then do a Google search to find why you do not really get
160 Gb if the HDD manufacturer tells he sold you a 160 Gb disk.

When I checked drive properties in My Computer it showed the full size
of the drive but I could see that it was using 22gb more than it
should be. All I had installed at the time was XP itself.

I did that and the full size of the drive was shown in XP but 22gb was
shown as being used when in fact all I had was about 2gb being used.
Rod has given me the solution.

p.s. I already understand about the different HDD space measurements
between the HDD manufacturer and the OS. This was not my problem.

Rod's solution was how you should have originally done it.
At this point, with SP2 finally installed, Joep's solution is
easiest.

Yep, but I've got data on that partition now so will keep as is for
now. I have just made an XP SP2 slipstream disk and will use it the
next time I reformat and install XP. Thanks all.

If by "that partition" you mean the one that you want to make
larger, Partition Magic can expand it without touching the data
inside it.

It is the second partition on C:, if I want to make C: just one
partition I would have to destroy the second partition then exapnd the
first partiton.

Why not drag 'n drop the data from the 2nd partition to the 1st?
The transfer rate should go pretty fast between the 2 IDE drives.
Just drag over a high level folder and all else below it will follow.
Or is the problem that at its current size, partition 1 will not fit all
the data that currently is in partition 2?

No, it's because the registry entries already refernce that partition.
If I move them to my second drive then those games probably won't work
anymore. It's ok though as I am going to keep the partitons as is
until I next install XP. Thanks.
