XP came loaded on my system when I bought it, so I don't have any disks. I
did not add any new hardware or software prior to it not being able to boot.
It did get to the page where it asks if I want to boot to safe mode, safe
with network or save with command prompt or last good configuration. None
work. I removed the HD and put it in another computer and it will boot, abet
slower performance and I saved my data. It seems that maybe it is not the
hard drive. Any ideas?

It is highly unusual that you did not receive any kind of disks for your
system. It might be to your advantage that you get with the mfg and either
download the software or buy them or get them to provide them to you for
free. Anything will be helpful, because if and when your system crashes, you
cannot repair it without any kind of external disks.... If the system is old
or it is second hand or something, then you would benefit you greatly to buy
a windows cd if you cannot obtain the recovery disks from your cmputers mfg.

In the interim, i would like to suggest that you get a set of boot up disks
made with the other computer. You can use them to help you with your system
as they will get you into a command prompt and perform additional tests or
something.

I think there are ms dos startup disks and another type that are for ntfs.
You should create both kinds. The ntfs in particular will help you if your
harddrive is ntfs. Do a little research at microsoft.com regarding creating
these types of startup disks.

One thought is that it might help to look into and ensure your cmos/bios
settings if your hard drive and is being recognized.....
