Long story short. Norton anti-virus had been giving me
messages about a virus on my box. The second day it asked
me if I wanted to delte the file winlogin (or something
close to that). I said yes, now of course XP won't boot.
As soon as it should go to the lonon screen it freezes.

Two questions -

1. is there anything I can do to get XP up and running.
I've installed a scond instance of XP on my box so I can
run a bit. But, I's like to get all my apps back as they
were

2. Can I copy the registry from the older instance of XP
to the new one and expect it to work?

Thanks

Did you try running the repair portion of windows setup
from the cd? Sounds like you ran setup and it just
installed 2 seperate copies of windows. Run setup again,
don't use the ASR option, but somewhere around the area it
asks which partition to install on you should get an
option to repair the installation on that partition.

Yes, I tried the repair option. But, when it had to reboot
XP it still stopped at the same point. Any ideas?
