How do I disable this program. The file name is
C:\Windows\system32\Wgatray.exe. I tried "Msconfig" and I could not find
it. I tried "services.msc" and could not find it either. Any help is
appreciated.

Personally, I use DiamondCS ProcessGuard to regulate what can load
into memory (programs can only run if they get into memory), and I
have it block wgatray.exe. It attempts to load twice on Windows
startup (as noted when I configure it to prompt rather than just block
it automatically). The ActiveX control used by the Windows Update
site doesn't use it so you can still authenticate your Windows at that
time to get updates.

is the utility generating a false positive or are you actually a
whining pirate? if the latter, it is the burgeoning piracy
"industry" that drives developers to call their honest /paying/
customers thieve and require onerous schemes to have the right to
use what they paid for in peace.

Microsoft installed this program when I did the last update. My firewall
picked up the program which I was not sure what to do with it. I needed to
disable it not to delete it, do you know the difference ? When you go to
upgrade again you will have to prove that you have an original windows. I
hate pirates and silly people.

On a different note, thanks Vanguard.

Yes, I think I know the difference between "disable" and
"delete". The question before the court, though, is whether
you're annoyed by false positives, for which M$ asserts it has
repaired the cause, or whether something on your system in the
O/S or some other crapola from M$ is pirated.

I hate pirates also, and I equally hate silly people, like you.
Why not call M$ and whine on their shoulders, I'm sure they'll
help you.
On a different note, thanks Vanguard.

a utility to delete WGA? don't think it matters right now but
whatta ya gonna do once Bill the Gates gets it through his head,
which will likely be the day he defeats his customers in court, and
/requires/ you to have it?

Thanks,
I read the article which says:

"Once the WGA Notification tool has checked your OS and has confirmed you
had a legit copy, there is no decent point or reason to check it again and
again every boot.

I might add, take up resources for no reason. They have the right to protect
their product but not to annoy their customers.

It's sometimes difficult to understand why the little guys are adament about
protecting the big, rich and powerful. But in any case, good programming
requires failsafes.

I am positive that eventhough the wga notification won't provide
information, there are other softwares that will. I know that microsoft
money checks in every single day, eventhough i don't run it every day........

I am also positive that once windows was proven to be legit, then there
would be no need for notification on a daily basis. The windows on the pc
shoul be tagged as "legit" or windows update could be programmed not to
update illegitimated windows.

I wish the notification could be used to protect us, like if a laptop was
stolen, the notification would provide some beneficial data as to where it is
or bein updated from... This should be a standard security measure in
Windows.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy to know microsoft is an american product
and the gates are doing great things for humanity.......!!! ;]
