I am trying to arm myself with knowledge as a significant
family feud is now underway due to a computer upgrade!
Old system was Windows 98. I installed NEW hard drive
(master) and loaded XP on the new drive. Changed jumper
on the now "old" Win 98 drive and it is now the slave
drive. Nothing has been done to that drive than changing
the master/slave jumper.
All works fine. I can see the directory files on the
slave drive.
After all was done and I had left to go home, one of the
PC feudsters says "I saved a whole bunch of "stuff" to a
folder on my Windows 98 desktop. Now I can't find it."
Since I am 80 miles away from this computer, I cannot see
what to do at this point. Of course I know that the
desktop folder on the slave drive will not automatically
show up on the XP master drive desktop.
Can XP be used to "see" a desktop folder graphic that now
resides on a Win 98 slave drive? Can you use file
explorer to see that folder and the subfolders when you go
to the E:\ drive which it has now become? Can it
be "sent" to the XP desktop? Or do you have to go and
retrieve the original files from the slave directory tree
and transfer them to a new folder in the XP desktop?
Thanks.
