XP/Win2K server on a domain

Harald

I'm running a Windows 2000 domain server at my office. The machines on the
domain are a mix of XP Pro & win2K pro. The server is running Serv-U FTP.

My problem is that when I am at home, since I switched over to XP Pro at the
office, I can no longer upload files to my office machine. The Win2K machines I
can upload to without any problems. I use the same logon on my FTP server that I
use for my domain logon on my XP machine.

Is there some setting that I need to change on my XP machine(or the Win2k
server) that will allow me to upload files from home, instead of getting the
"cannot create file" error?

Hi Harald,

First thing I would check would be any event/error logs on the machine
running the FTP Server. At the time of the "cant create error" message on the
home pc, additional debug information might be available there.

After that I would check any firewalls that might affect the transfer.
Consider home PC firewall, office firewall and possible the machine running
ftp server having its own firewall.

If your home PC is behind a router or has an internal IP address then you
will probably need to use PASV setting in FTP client to upload files. Ensure
this is done and the FTP Server supports this. Checking your home PC can
upload elsewhere will prove whether your home settings are ok or not.

Hope this helps

Ok,

I can upload to the Win2K machines on my office network, so firewalls aren't an
issue. I can also upload to my XP machine, if I upload the files to an empty
directory. It's only when I try to overwrite existing files, that I have the
problem (should have been clearer in my initial explanation :))

My XP login does have administrative rights as well, so permissions should (I
think!) not be an issue.
