XP WILL NOT START

when I try to boot my PC hangs on the XP screen then freezes. If I shut the
machine off and back on, it will bring it to the safe mode. If I select safe
mode is dumps a page of long strings such as
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\driver etc

Any ideas?

Try the procedures in this Microsoft KB article, but be sure to creat
backups of the files in case this isn't the real issue. Sounds lik
your registry got hosed, which is pretty common in XP..
