xp will not start in safe mode

Hi I shut down my computer and when I tried to restart.I
got the black window with start in safe mode,only it won't
start in safe mode. I don't really know what to do in
recovery mode.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and, instead
of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

Give

Chkdsk /F C:

and see if that does the trick
