XP will not load lsass.exe/drwtsn.exe application errors

Matt

I am running XP Home Edition SP2 on a 3 yr. old HP notebook. The system
froze up, and when I rebooted, Windows will not load. Safe mode gives me
lsass.exe - application error (0XC0000006) then a black screen w/ no
functionality. "Last known configuration" loaded slowly and incompletely
over about 90 minutes, but gave me a corrupt local profile message when I
input the system owner password, then a drwtsn32.exe - application error
(0XC0000006)... It loaded up some of the desktop but there was never any
functionality. Is there anything I can do to save my system without losing
everything?

As mark mentioned try the system restore and see if that will take you back
into shape and run a thorough check for malware and viruses with up to date
security software.

If you still experiencing a problem please send the error messages for us
here to troubleshoot.

Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it
later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.
click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow
exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the
causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad
you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from
the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.

Please we need just the error messages with Red (X) and don't repeat the
error, just one of each kind and post them back in your next post.

Thanks for the suggestions...
Safe mode with a command prompt gave me the same lsass.exe application error
and there was no command prompt. I will try what I can when I get home and
get back to you. Thanks again!

Matt

So, I tried to run system restore from safe mode / command prompt and got an
error message that says "system restore is not able to protect your computer.
Please restart your computer and run system restore again." I tried again
with the same result.

I booted into safe mode and tried to pull up the event viewer using the
eventvwr.msc command and got an error message stating that the "snap-in
failed to initialize" for the event viewer. I went to open the event viewer
through the control panel/administrative tools/computer management path and
got a series of error messages about various "snap-in" failures. I wrote
down all of the errors and "CLSID" numbers if that helps. I tried running
system restore again with the same error message as before.

I tried to do a "clean boot" using msconfig but when I restarted the
computer it would not boot up again, until I shut it off and rebooted into
safe mode.

Any other ideas?
