XP VPN connections L2TP/PPTP

All my VPN connections are set to L2TP, and I'm unable to revert them back to
PPTP. Creating a new PPTP will auto change to a L2TP connection. Manually
editting them and setting it to PPTP will revert back to L2TP once I click on
the ok button

Is your machine, or has it been in the past, on a managed network where
there might be policy settings in place which might maintain that setting?

No, I'm the administrator of our network, and the other laptops are fine.
Just stopped working 2-3 weeks ago
