XP volume shadow copy

eventvwr lists "volume shadow copy service error" with some frequency,
usually near a BSOD crash. I have found I can disable this in MSCONFIG.
What are the consequences if I disable this? Trying to troubleshoot.

BTW, when I crash, the BSOD error is iomdisk.sys, witht eh explanation >
"The driver is attempting to access memory beyond the end of the allocation"
