Thank you Gerry. But Volume Shadow Copy Service Closes and opens well.
I already tried reregistering VSS .dll files but unsuccesfully
Oh, so it is NOT the VSC service that is hanging as you said in your
Subject header. You just said that it started and stopped okay. It is
the backup programs that are creating the hang state. Yet tried
disabling your security programs during a backup (anti-virus,
anti-malware, host intrusion protection system (HIPS) employed in a
firewall, etc.)? Have you yet tried rebooting into Windows's Safe Mode
(with networking since one of the backup programs is actually a
copy-over-network service) and retrying these backups?
You mention Acronis. That is a company name, not a product name. So
WHICH of the Acronis products are you using? I have the TrueImage Home
product. Their Home edition does NOT support shadow copying. You have
to buy their Workstation edition to get VSC to work with it. They claim
VSC isn't needed in their Home edition but then why do they need it in
their Workstation version? You did not mention which Acronis product
you use or which edition of it or which version of it.
You mention JungleDisk. Jungledisk has you save copies of your files up
to a file server (i.e., it is an online backup service). Most of these
types of online storage services are just copy-over-network providers.
They don't support VSC. You get to copy the same files you could with
Windows Explorer, and that excludes locked files. They don't mention
supporting VSC by their local client you download and run on your host.
Their manuals are at
http://www.jungledisk.com/support_userguides.aspx
but I wasn't going to bother scanning through all of them. You never
mentioned WHICH version of Jungledisk's service that you use. Their
Desktop Edition user guide does not contain "shadow", "vsc", or "vss"
anywhere in it. So what make you think what you use includes support
for VSC? There is mention in the Workgroup Edition user guide of a
backup option to include locked files. That doesn't necessarily mean it
uses the Volume Shadow Copy service. Acronis TI Home claims it can also
backup locked files but it doesn't use VSC (and Acronis won't reveal how
they do it). You could go ask in their forums to see if other users
know a solution (
http://forum.jungledisk.com/).
You mention GoodSynck. Google found no matches on products with that
title. GoodSync exists but, again, it has more than one edition (Free
and Pro). You never mentioned WHICH one you use. I went to
http://www.goodsync.com/manual.html and see they have a "Copy Locked
Files" option that supposedly makes use of VSC. I don't know that
product. The place to ask regarding problems with it is the author of
that program (
http://support.goodsync.com/php/gsss/main). They do not
provide forums to ask other users about the problem.
