While my notebook is docked I arrange my desktop icons a certain way, but
once i am undocked the icons are all over the place.

How & where can i force the undocked desktop profile to be the same as the
docked profile?

Thanks
Heinrich

Righ-click on "My Computer" icon and choose Properties, System Properties
windows will open choose "Hardware" tab and then Hardware Profile and create
a new profile

When it's docked, is it a member of a Corporate domain ?
If so then it is likely using a Roaming profile, where setup &
customizations are stored on a Server.

If not then it has two hardware profiles and knows which is
currently active. It is done, so that in each configuration the
PC can use different hardware (Docking Station). Right Click
My Computer, Properties, Hardware (Tab), Hardware
Profiles and you can see how many exist on the notebook.
It is possible to copy HW profiles, but can have unanticipated
results.

replying to your question about the notebook being part of a domain the
answer is yes, if I am not mistaken I will need to configure an
organizational unit and add either my username or notebook name in this unit
to be able to receive the custom policy?

The question is which settings do I need to configure in order to preserve
the same desktop settings while in a docked & undocked state?

I have the same problem with my system. The desktop icons arrangement in
Online & offline profile is very very different. And the worst is that when i
work in offline mode and go back to the online mode, then the icon
arrangement is restored back to the offline version. It will be very helpful
to know how we can set these icons so that they are represented correctly in
both forms.
