desktop icon problem

Our CEO has a Dell D600 notebook. She likes her icons on her desktop arranged in a certain way and when she arranges them then shuts down and undocks the system the icons are different, she arranges them again docks it and starts up again and the icons are all over to the left (like they we're auto-arranged).

Why is this happening? She does have a roaming profile, but shouldn't whatever she does docked also "stick" when undocked?

If the icon count isn't like a "Normal" Manager/Sr Level, try and
convince her to use the Quick Launch bar instead, which can be
"Locked". It's more convenient and should be just at the right
technical level for most PDA packing, Conference room jockeys.

Plus managers love something they think is new & improved.

it is, around 2 dozen. I was thinking it was because of the difference in
screens, but I've never experienced this with my notebook (either that or
didn't notice cause I don't care). 14" screen on the notebook and a 17" LCD
on the dock, would that make a difference? shouldn't the screen res keep
this from being a problem?

It's almost like the notebook is applying docked and non-docked settings
but I can't find anything on that.

Thanks for the suggestion

Jokes aside, a Notebook will have different hardware profiles but
not the desktop. I would set the arrange icons for the desktop to
be align to grid, and uncheck Auto-Arrange. Can you log in to her
account from a different machine and see how the roaming profile
displays the desktop there. Good Luck, keeping the Boss happy
is always a challenge.

I've got a Latitude D800 and noticed the same thing... Fixed it by making sure the undocked screensize/resolution is the same as the docked... OR... Make sure auto-arrange is OFF and align to grid is ON tell'm to not place icons below say the ninth one in any one particular column... this'll allow the screen size to shrink without trying to redistributing the icons...
