I TRIED TO UPGRADE XP SYSTEM FILES BY USING XP DISC SO I
COULD SAVE PROGRAMS AND SETTINGS. BUT WHEN IT GOT DOWN TO
34 MINUTES TO COMPLETION IT WOULD HANG, REBOOT GO FROM 37
MINUTES BACK TO 34 MINUTES, AND THIS LOOP WOULD CONTINUE.
COULD NOT SAVE ANYTHING CAN NOT GET ANY HELP BECAUSE OF
OEM VERSION. I JUST WISH I HAD KNOWN THAT MICROSOFT WILL
NOT SUPPORT CONSUMERS WITH PROBLEMS THAT ARE CLEARLY OF
THEIR MAKING. THANKS.

If you have a network card installed, take it out. If the network card is
part of the motherboard, disable it in the bios.

If neither of those work, take out/disable everything you don't need. like
the sound card, modem, etc. Unplug printer, scanner, etc.

Generally this is caused by an incompatible driver that's already installed,
or a hardware issue. After XP is installed, you can reassemble things and
all should be well again.

And next time you're trying to fix system files, you don't need to
reinstall. There's an easier way. But of course then you couldn't tell us
that MS clearly caused this problem.
