XP Upgrade from Me (Sasser)

Hi Guys,
I have an XP Home upgrade and im looking to upgrade from
Me.
If i start it say tommorow will the sasser virus and its
variants come into effect? And if so could you post the
relevent steps to get rid of it.

Upgade it. When you go online make sure to turn on the xp firewall first,
then go to windows update and get all the patches. DO NOT go online without
the firewall up and running. As long as it's running, you'll be fine. Always
run the firewall and stayed patched and you won't get blaster or sasser.

enable XP firewall on your connection & install good AV (rec. AVG or Avast)
prior to connecting. Once connected click on start,control panel,windows
update and deal with that first.

Then go install spybot S&D

The best steps you can take to avoid this is removing your internet
connection (cable, phone line, etc) and make sure you are not online when
you're installing the OS. You can activate any time online, you don't have
to do it when installing. Once the OS is fully installed, activate a
firewall (either the built-in firewall or a third-party firewall) and
install current (not earlier than 2002) anti-virus software. Once you have
the firewall and AV configured properly, hook up your internet connection,
download the updates for your AV, then get the Windows updates.

Hopefully, taking these steps will keep you as free from Sasser and its
variants as possible.

Before you even think to go online make sure up put up a
firewall(be it the windows firewall or a 3rd party one
(prefered)) and an antivirus software. Then immediately
the first thing you do is go to get the windows critical
updates.

I suggest downloading the .exe files to patch for Blaster AND Sasser
worms. Disconnect from internet, upgrade, (turn on the built in
Firewall for ISP connection), install patches and you should be ok!
