just upgraded from 98 to xp pro
computer keeps crashing. blue screen comes up.
when i start it it tells me the file system is fat 32 and
needs to scan the disk thge disk for consistency. this
takes about 10 minutes every time, it never did that
before. can i turn =that off?
what is fat 32? is there some kind of compatability
problem with it? i'm also running partition magic to
divide my hard drive in two. coiuld it be that?
i also updates my drivers
i've run s system check it says everything is fine but it
blatently isnt and everyone says its a compatibility
problem.
any ideas?

Regrettably, this isn't enough information to get help. Did you simply
install XP over Win98 (upgrade install) or did you do a clean install
(formatting the drive first)? FAT32 is a file system, the one that was
used for Win98. It can be used for XP, although ntfs is preferred. What
is the error message on the blue screen? Post back with more details,
like the answers to the questions I just posed and also your system
specs, when the computer crashes, etc. Remember, we aren't at your
house and can't see your computer from here. You may just want to take
your machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a Best Buy or
CompUSA) and have them fix it for you.
