xp updates

i have have been trying to update my xp with the latest
security patches as reccomended, i access the update site
download the updates and when my machine is trying to
install them if fails and send error messages to microsoft
any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated. i
have searched the knowledge base but have not found
anything that relates to my specific issue

Have a look in the Windows Update.log file - which can be found in the Windows folder - for any error numbers - towards the end of the file. If any are found, see if they are referenced here:

I have the same problem plus once I did get the

updates, my computer stopped responding so I say; Go to
the store and purchase windows 98, or some other tried
and true OS

How can you dare say that 98 would count as a tried and true os, whereas XP isn't. Obviously you
don't know XP well. Windows XP is the most reliable windows yet, assuming you don't have crappy
hardware. Learn the facts.
