Windows XP XP update problem

I have rebuilt XP pro with sp2, downloaded all the updates, but when it gets to the install stage, the message 'Some updates could not be instaled' appears. This affects all updates as none of them were installed.

Does anyone have a fix for this....help
 
Download service pack 3 , SP 3 , . I read somewhere that it is best to just download several updates at a time and install , then download a few more and install . SP 3 is your best route though .

I have tried SP3, removing factroy installed applets, installing one at a time...always the same result.

I have spent several hours searching the www not much luck yet...
