XP update, now won't boot

Hey everyone,
Last night I updated my PC (SP 3?), and now all I get is a black screen with
a blinking cursor. I have a removable hard drive and last night I was using
my 320 gb one. Today when I check the BIOS, it doesn't see my hard drive. It
does see the DVD, USB devices, etc. When I use my 120 gb hard drive it does
the same thing. The 120 gb was updated the other day and everything worked,
although I had to go into the BIOS and tell it to boot to the hard drive.
Both hard drives worked until after last nights updates. Any ideas?
 
Sounds like the drive connection/or IDE channel failed, by pure
coincidence after the install. IF the BIOS can't see a drive, then it is
somewhat difficult to load an operating system from it no?
